In the early hours of the morning on Jan. 26, 2023, Mr. John Ardis Onley III passed away at the age of 59.
Raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, John served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves for several years and dedicated his life to serving others. He worked closely with multiple volunteer services on both the Eastern Shore and in the surrounding Maryland areas with the support from his lifelong partner, Linda Carlton.
John is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline E. Bowles and husband, Jonathan, and Katelyn E. Gettys and husband, Brandon; his mother, Jacqueline Onley; two sisters, Sara Outten and Trisha Swier and husband, Dave; a stepson Clay Carlton; three grandchildren, Bryce Bowles, Colin Bowles, and Jacob Carlton; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Ardis Onley Jr.; his son, John Tyler Onley; partner, Linda Carlton, and stepdaughter, Kristen Carlton.
A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 1, from the graveside of Modest Town Baptist Church Cemetery, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Eastern Shore SPCA in honor of John’s love of animals.
Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
