Mr. Norman Carey Watson, 73, of Wallops Island, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 25, 2023, at his home. Carey was born on Aug. 18, 1949, in Chincoteague, the son of the late Windread and Estella Watson.

Most important to Carey was his love and service to the Lord, which went hand-in-hand with his love and affection for his family and friends. Carey’s love of all things military was born out of his proud service with the Navy where he served on the USS John F. Kennedy. He always enjoyed going with his children to the shooting range for some target practice and sharing his joy of duck hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Being an always present part of the family, Carey’s Labrador retrievers held a special place in his heart. Prancer, Brady, Casey, and Abbey brought him great joy. As owners of the Sea Hawk Motel on Maddox Blvd., Chincoteague, he and his wife, Brenda, developed longstanding relationships with many of their patrons.

Carey is survived by his wife, Brenda (Williams) Watson, his son Michael Watson and his wife Beth of Salisbury, Md., his daughter Mary Beth Dalton and her husband James, of Suffolk, Va., and his granddaughters Meagan and Julia Tanner, both of Salisbury. Carey is also survived by his sisters, Winnie Hicks of Henrico, N.C., and Linda Budd of Wallops Island, his sister-in-law Faye Watson of Ocean City, Md., his nieces Denise Holston, Beverly Riggs, Melanie Watson, Karen Budd, and Jan Budd, and his nephews Tony Watson, Louis Edward Budd, and Gary Hall, as well as many great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father- and mother-in-law Frank and Mary Louis Williams, brother Wayne Watson, and brother-in-law Lewis Earl Budd.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague, with the Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.

Burial will take place in John W. Taylor Cemetery in Temperanceville.
