The Northampton Yellow Jackets varsity softball team hosted Lancaster High School Monday, March 28. The Yellow Jackets won 6-5.
In the first inning, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on singles by Charlotte Henderson and Jillian Spence and added three more runs in the third inning. Heading into the sixth inning, the Yellow Jackets led 6-1 and appeared poised to win by a large margin, but Lancaster mounted a comeback and scored three runs. Following one more Lancaster run in the seventh inning, the Yellow Jackets closed out the game.
Spence pitched the entire game, allowing nine hits, walking one batter and striking out 10. The Yellow Jackets’ offense was led by Peyton Sayers, Marlena Dzurko, and Spence who each earned two hits. Mallory Hook, Hannah Locklear, Katelyn Leatherbury, and Henderson each had one hit. Sayers scored two runs. Henderson, Hook, Dzurko, and Heather Demarino each scored one run.
The same evening, the Northampton Yellow Jackets varsity baseball team hosted Lancaster High School. The Yellow Jackets lost 19-1.
Stephen Matlack pitched for two and a third innings, allowing 10 hits and 13 runs and walking four batters. Romano Onley and Aron Price pitched in relief. Price gave up three hits and walked four batters. Onley allowed zero hits and walked three batters.
Onley led the Yellow Jackets’ offensively. Onley earned one hit and one RBI. Brayden Burn scored the Yellow Jackets’ single run in the second inning.
Both the Yellow Jackets softball and baseball teams traveled to West Point High School Wednesday, March 30. The softball team won 10-4 and the baseball team won 7-4. Their next home game is Monday, April 4, against Surry County High School.
