Mr. James (Jay) Pronier Jr., passed away on Nov. 25, 2025, in Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News. Born in Nassawadox on Sept. 30, 1959, he was the son of James Pronier Sr., and Alice Ilene Marshall.
Jay was a lifetime member of the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company and worked at every carnival as long as his health permitted. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was employed by several businesses on Chincoteague through the years as well as by contractors at NASA.
Jay enjoyed NASCAR and football, especially the Dallas Cowboys.
Jay is survived by his sisters, Wendy Ainsworth and Geneva Rathbone; his aunt, Lois Birch Gaskins, two nephews, and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and by Douglas Marshall, who was like a father to him.
Funeral services were held at Salyer Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Maury Enright and the Rev. Kevin Wilson officiating. Interment was in Daisey Cemetery on Church Street.
Services were entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home, Chincoteague.
