Mr. Dale C. Matthews succumbed to his illness on Nov. 28, 2025, at Tidal Health in Salisbury, Md.
Dale fought a courageous battle with his illness to “stay as long as he could” with his beloved family and friends and the home he loved, especially his “garage,” where his heart was working on cars or “tinkering” on something to bring it back to life.
Born on Nov. 30, 1950, in Nassawadox, he was the son of the late Robert Elwood Matthews and Elizabeth Grace Matthews Colona.
Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Debbie Russell (Frank), of Parksley, and Margaret Fecteau (John), of Wallops Island; his niece, Brittany Lewis (Cullen); his great-niece, Alice Lewis; his special friends, Matt, Cris, and Sparkplug; and his cousin, Dennis.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his German shepherds, Missy and Queenie.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. from the graveside of the Downings Cemetery in Oak Hall, with Pastor Bob Reese officiating.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Oak Hall Rescue Company.
Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
