Mrs. Betty Lane Matthews, 83, of Bloxom, wife of the late Albert L. Matthews, passed away on Dec. 31, 2024, in Parksley.
Born on Oct. 3, 1941, in Hopeton, she was the daughter of the late Upshur Dennis Matthews and Nettie Catherine Thornton Matthews.
Betty worked for McCrory’s Department Store in Chester, Pa., for over 30 years, as well as on the Shore at the Parksley Drug Store. She was a dedicated member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, word searches, and visiting her friends and family. Betty was a sweet and kind lady who always had a smile on her face and a positive and happy demeanor.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lane Matthews, of Folcroft, Pa.; a sister, Norma Sue Bloxom; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; and many past and present dogs and grand-dogs.
Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Frances Fluhart.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. from Thornton Funeral Home with Pastor George Fulk officiating. Interment followed in the Parksley Cemetery.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
