Mr. Marvin H. Tawes Jr., 90, of Crisfield, Md., died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News.

Born in Crisfield on March 23, 1933, he was a son of the late Marvin H. Tawes Sr. and Helen Richardson Tawes. His wife of 54 years, Eleanor Ann Marshall Tawes, preceded him in death on June 20, 2012.

He was a graduate of Crisfield High School, class of 1951, obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland College Park, and graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore.  Following graduation from dental school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving four years in the Dental Corps, and was honorably discharged as captain. Dr. Tawes practiced dentistry in Crisfield for more than 30 years.

Dr. Tawes was a lifelong and active member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Crisfield. He was also a member of Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044 and the former Crisfield Rotary Club.

He loved spending time with his family, playing golf, gardening, and being outside. He had a reverence for Mother Nature and enjoyed everything nature had to offer. Over the past five years, he enjoyed residing in Onley with his companion, Judy Bradshaw. There, he enjoyed attending Onley United Methodist Church and Onley Baptist Church. 

He is survived by two children, Craig Tawes and wife, Terri, of Crisfield and Kay Insley and husband, Eddie, of South Mills, N.C.; his son-in-law, Ronnie Evans and wife, Maria, of Crisfield; six grandchildren, Ross Evans and wife, Joanne, of Crisfield, Ryan Dodson and wife, Nicole, of Crisfield, Dustin Tawes, of Pocomoke, Brooks Dodson and wife, Renee, of Crisfield, Alexander Tawes, of Marion, and Rachael Evans, of Princess Anne; four great-grandchildren, Jason, Lane, Everley, and Ellie Kay; his companion, Judy Bradshaw of Onley; and several step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kara Evans, on March 28, 2015; and his brother, Porter Tawes.

Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield, where a visitation was from 11:30 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m.  The Rev. Stephen S. Willing officiated.  Interment followed in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
