Mrs. Julia Hurst Kaufmann, 92, of Greenville, Pa., formerly of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, passed away Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, following a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Esther Hurst; her brother, Bobby; and her sister, Betty Ann.

She was born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and lived most of her life in Baltimore. She lived her last two years in Greenville with her son, Alan Carr, and his wife, Nancy.

Julia worked at Loyola College in Baltimore as a telephone operator before retiring in 2003.

Always encouraging others, she could be heard saying things like, “Pick yourself up and dust yourself off,” “We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it,” or “This, too, will pass.”

Julia loved much and was loved by many.

She is survived by Alan and Nancy Carr; Deborah and William Munk; Sheila Carre; and Scott and Nancy Carr; sister-in-law, Alice Hurst, of Melfa; niece and nephew, Denise Hurst and Berkley Windsor; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial and inurnment will be held Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at 2 p.m., in Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Onancock, with the Rev. Robert Fletcher officiating.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Raymond Gramata as celebrant. Arrangements were entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Greenville.
