Mrs. Brenda Joyce Ward, 73, of Melfa, passed away on Oct. 22, 2023 in Melfa.
Born on Oct. 10, 1950, in Nassawadox, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Ward Sr. and Virginia Rose Brown Ward.
Brenda worked as a cashier for many years at Shore Stop and Bloxom Mini-Mart. Known as “Ma” or “Granny” by everyone, she absolutely adored and lived for her family. She was funny, loving, and caring and always spoke her mind.
Brenda is survived by her children, Thomas J. Wessells Jr. (Missy), of Melfa, Virginia Guzman, of Florida, Tina Morales (Tony Ramirez), of Parksley, and Mio Ward (Jennifer Cardoza), of Wachapreague; siblings, Peggy Beasley, Nancy Tatum, and Fredia Ward; grandchildren, T.K. Wessells, Andy Wessells, Candi Guzman, Christina “Kiki” Lopez, Leonel Lopez, Luci Espitia, Alicia Soto, Didi Espitia, Brenda “Baby” Horne, Ashley Chavez, Myrka Chavez, Tristan Short, Julia Jones, Carlisle “Bubba” Jones, and Andrew Chandler; 12 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Bonnie Cropper.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wessells; a grandson, Tyler Ward; and siblings, Robert Ward, Jr., Emma Ward, Terry Ward, and Cheryl Rivera.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023 at 2 p.m. from Thornton Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Cropper Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the Parksley Cemetery.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service at Thornton Funeral Home.
Arrangements were by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
