Ponies Softball Team Shuts Out Yellow Jackets

The Chincoteague Ponies were hosted by Northampton softball on Tuesday, May 3. Chincoteague came ready to play as the Ponies started the first inning with four runs. Chincoteague continued to score in all five innings of the game, while shutting out Northampton’s offense. Chincoteague scored a total of 21 runs on 20 hits with two home runs by Emma Jackson and Allie Bell. 

Alex McComb earned the win for the Ponies as she dominated on the mound. McComb pitched a complete game allowing zero runs and only four hits with 11 strikeouts. 

Chincoteague’s offense was strong throughout the entire game. Lillie Matthews led the team going 5-for-5 with three triples and two doubles. Sara Godwin and Bell both had three hits in the game while McComb, Zulia Diaz, Lola Watson, and Caitlyn McPherson each recorded two. 

For Northampton, Mallory Hook led the team at the plate going 2-for-2. Kaylei Brady and Katelyn Leatherbury each had one hit on the day. 

Chincoteague added another win to its undefeated season, extending its record to 10-0. The Ponies are set to compete again on Thursday, May 5, at home against Arcadia. Northampton will host Nandua the same day, looking to earn its first district win.
