Dear Editor:
In response to the coming cigarette tax, I would like to say, that in my 84 years I have never smoked a cigarette, but if I did, I would be smart enough to go to Accomack County to buy them.
Northampton will not gain on taxes but will lose county merchant revenue as well. If you want to collect more taxes, consider changes to the agricultural-forestal districts. I’m not saying stop it — just give them less of the exemption amount and be more fair to all taxpayers. We need an accounting of the lost revenue due to the AFD discounts.
