Ponies Softball Continues Undefeated Season with Win Over Firebirds

The Chincoteague Ponies varsity softball team defeated the Arcadia Firebirds 9-3 on Tuesday, April 5, in Oak Hall.  

Chincoteague put pressure on the Firebirds in the third inning. The rally began with a walk by Emma Jackson, then a single by Allie Bell, a fielder’s choice by Lillie Matthews, and a double by Caity Kerchner, giving the Ponies a 6-0 lead. Chincoteague added runs in the fourth and the sixth innings while Arcadia was only able to bring in three runs on five hits. 

Alex McComb pitched the Chincoteague Ponies to victory. The righty went seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out eight. Sydney Jester completed a full game in the circle for Arcadia. Jester surrendered nine runs on nine hits over seven innings, striking out 10.

Allie Bell led the Ponies on offense with two hits in three at bats. Senior Emma Jackson sent one over the fence in the game to add to Chincoteague’s nine hits on the day.  For the Firebirds, Bella Williams led the team on offense going 1-for-3 with a home run.

The Ponies are scheduled to play again April 19 against Broadwater Academy. The Firebirds next home game will be Monday, April 18, against Bruton.
