Mrs. Emma F. Edwards, 102, of Parksley, gained her wings Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Born in Bloxom, Emma was the beloved daughter of the late Norwood and Sally Downing. She was the mother of three sons who preceded her in death; Robert, Warner, and Preston Jr.
Emma was a member of Adams United Methodist Church in Parksley. She entered the workforce at an early age, holding many positions at various places: J.C. Cleaners, Perdue, and Byrd’s Foods, to name a few. She was a hard worker and great provider for her family.
“Grandma,” as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; “Aunt Emma” to many cousins, nieces, and nephews, was the matriarch and backbone of the family for many years. She definitely was the glue that held the family together.
Private graveside services were held Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at Adams U.M. Church Cemetery, Parksley, with the Rev. Ricardo Poulson officiating.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; three special nieces; goddaughter, Tumicka Ayres; her extended family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
