Capt. Richard Floyd Mitchell, U.S. Navy, retired, 80, husband of Mary McIhenny Mitchell and a resident of the Hermitage on the Eastern Shore, formerly of Virginia Beach, Va., passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2018.

Born April 20, 1938, in San Angelo, Texas, he was the son of Milton and Frances Holmes. Capt. Mitchell attained a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Mississippi and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, where he later retired with the rank of Captain. He was an avid golfer and loved dogs.

In addition to his loving wife of years, he is survived by three sons, Mike Mitchell of Hampton, Va., David Mitchell and wife, Linda, of Pungoteague, and Jay Mitchell and wife, Julie, of Roswell, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Zachary, Hunter, and Cecilia Mitchell.

In accordance with his wishes, funeral services will be private.
