Laps for Books

Join members of the Kiwanis Club of Accomack for Family Fun Day at the Eastern Shore Family YMCA on Saturday, September 21. The Club is joining with the Eastern Shore Family YMCA and the Literacy Council of the Eastern Shore to lap the YMCA track with 1,460 books and laps to increase book-ownership among children and families on the Eastern Shore.
Summer is a great time to clear the bookshelves before the start of another school year. Be part of this effort by donating new or used children or young adult books in good condition, until September 19. Drop books off during normal business hours at the Book Bin, Eastern Shore Family YMCA, BB&T and Panzotti’s in Onley; J&M Collectibles in Exmore; Corner Bakery in Onancock; Accomac Optometric Center in Accomac; Club Car Café in Parksley; Rayfield’s Pharmacy and Peach Tree Book Store in Cape Charles; and at the Island House Restaurant in Wachapreague.
Studies have reported a link between reading success in primary grades and the ability to succeed throughout a student’s school career. Ensure local children have access to books and positive reading experiences and support family and child literacy development by donating to the Laps for Book Project.
Come out 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 21 for a day of fun outdoor and indoor activities for kids of all ages. Walk, jog or run the laps on the track for literacy. Have fun while helping local children and families own books.
