Six-year-old Ernest Jester Jr., of Chicoteague, fatally drowned July 30, 1963, while playing around the waterfront near Charles B. Gall’s store on South Main Street.
On July 30, 1959, the Peninsula Enterprise reported that the Eastern Shore welcomed three new physicians: Dr. William Stewart Burton, formerly of Chincoteague; Dr. Tom Edmonds, who returned to the Shore to practice with his father, Dr. J. Fred Edmonds; and Dr. Isaac White, the son of Marie White of Bloxom.
On July 30, 1959, the Peninsula Enterprise newspaper reported that the first polio case of 1959 on the Eastern Shore was Jo Ann Rue, a 2-year-old from Withams, who was at Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital.
On July 30, 1956, Northampton County farmers completed organization of a sweet potato maretking cooperative called Northampton Marketing Cooperative Inc. Stock valued at $50,000 were issued, with 500 common shares at $10 and 450 shares at $100.
