Mr. Scott R. Walker Jr., age 86, son of the late Scott R. Walker Sr. and Virginia K. Walker, of Nassawadox, passed away at his Stuart, Fla., home on July 7.
He is survived by his brother, Jeff Walker (Lee), of Nassawadox; his devoted friend and caregiver, Jeanne Nassar; and many cousins and friends.
He graduated from Virginia Tech with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering in 1965 and 1967, received a commission in the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Service, and served in surveying in the Gulf of Alaska and adjoining waters.
He later joined the Peace Corps, designing and supervising the construction of foot bridges in the mountains near Katmandu, capital of Nepal, and later for Sverdup-Parcel engineers in Bangkok, Thailand. Part of his return trip to the U.S. in 1974 included driving his Volkswagen Beetle on a challenging, three-month, 12,000-mile journey from Bangkok across Asia and southern Europe to London.
He moved to Cape Charles after retiring in 2001 from a computer software business in Washington. He lived in Stuart for the past 20 years.
A lifelong world traveler, Scott was an adventurous free spirit in life and will be missed by those who knew him.
A private service was held in Florida.
