Mrs. Janie Conquest, 85, of Hallwood, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, July 17, 2026.
Born on Aug. 3, 1940, in Reading, Pa., Janie was the daughter of the late James O. and Lity Wesner Eisenbise.
She graduated from Conrad Weiser High School in 1958 and continued her education at Albright College in Reading and Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Del., before moving to Virginia’s Eastern Shore in 1960.
Janie spent much of her life working on the family farm and caring for the animals she loved. She was actively involved with Arabian horses, Angus cattle, and Standardbred horses, taking great pride in their care and well-being.
She was also a dedicated member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 12-06, where she served with distinction for more than 30 years in numerous flotilla and division leadership roles. Passionate about boating safety, she devoted hundreds of hours to teaching safe boating classes, helping educate countless recreational boaters. She also volunteered with the U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Introduction Mission program, spending many summers at the academy mentoring and encouraging prospective cadets as they explored opportunities for service and leadership.
Whether on the farm, in service to the Coast Guard Auxiliary, or with her family, Janie approached life with dedication, compassion, and an adventurous spirit. She found great fulfillment in caring for the family farm and serving her community, but her greatest joy was always her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Janie will be remembered for her kindness, adventurous spirit, and lifelong dedication to her family, her community, and the farm she loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Johnny” Conquest.
Janie is survived by her daughters, Beth Onley (Alan), of New Church, and Amy Taylor (Robert “Dyke”), of Centreville, Md.; her five grandchildren, Cole Charnock (Kristen), Ryan Charnock (Miranda), Ashley Charnock (Dustin), Caroline Taylor, and Lauren Taylor; and her seven great-grandchildren, Loralei, Raiden, Renlee, Evie, Atlas, Bray, and Collins.
A celebration of Janie’s life will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Saturday, July 25, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Cody Ramsay officiating.
