Oct 10, 2025 | Obituaries

Mr. Edward Charles Walker, 98 years young, passed away peacefully on Sept. 20, 2025, and is now in the presence of his heavenly Father. He was born on June 16, 1927, to the late Asher and Alberta Walker. He was born and raised on Chincoteague Island.

He was known to many as “Buddy.”  To the love of his life, he was known as “Ed.” To his children, he was “Dad,” and to his grandchildren, “Pop Pop” or “Pop Boy” — a testament to the deep affection and respect he inspired in all who knew him.

He was a waterman in his early years and a carpenter by trade for many, many years. He retired and then kept on working. He was strong and as the saying goes, he was “tough as nails.”

Buddy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Elizabeth Walker, of Chincoteague, and his son, Douglas Edward Walker, of Belle Haven, as well as his sisters, Lillie Birch and Helen Russell, both of Chincoteague.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda, and his favorite son-in-law, Herbie Lee Daisey, of Chincoteague; his granddaughter, Terri Budd and her husband, Louis, of Ocean Pines, Md.; his granddaughter, Debbie Linton, of Chincoteague; his grandson, Doug Walker Jr. and his girlfriend, Philicia, of Stockton, Md.; his great-grandson, Eric Budd and his wife, Lauren, of East New Market, Md.; his great-grandson Tyler Budd and his wife, Jessica, of Salisbury, Md.; his great-granddaughter Lindsey and her husband, James Wood, of Chincoteague; his great- grandson, Mark Walker, of Eden, Md.; his great-grandson, Devin Walker, of Millsboro, Del.; and his great-great- grandchildren, Selena, Asher, Keira, Carter, Emma, Charlotte, Cecil, Parker, and Winston.

He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Susan Walker, of Belle Haven, and her daughter, Amy Wilcox; his sister, Shirley Jester and her husband, Herb, of Chincoteague, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island. There was a visitation one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company, https://cvfc3.com/about/donate/ or Riverside Hospice Care Eastern Shore, 23379 Commerce Drive, Accomac, VA 23301.

Services were entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., on Chincoteague Island. Condolences may be made online at www.salyerfh.com
