Mrs. Irene Kleckner, 89, of Chincoteague Island, wife of the late Lee Kleckner, passed away on March 13, 2025, in Parksley.
Born on Aug. 29, 1935, on Chincoteague, she was the daughter of the late Lynwood Watson and Ruby Snead Watson.
Irene was a homemaker who was known for her sharp wit and telling you like it was. She had zero filter and would often preface with, “I’m gonna tell you somethin’ buddy…” She loved watching soap operas with her coffee and cigarettes and crocheting, but she couldn’t cook a thing except fudge, which she was known for. A tried and true Chincoteaguer, Irene lived for the yearly Pony Penning week. She even made her kids hop on a bus from Florida to the Eastern Shore one year so she wouldn’t miss it.
Irene is survived by her children, Paul Kleckner, of Chincoteague, Monnie Terry, of Chincoteague, and Chris Kleckner, of Atlantic; her grandchildren, Ryan Terry, Irene Terry, Lee Kleckner, and Megan Crain; and her great-grandchildren, Roy Crain, Watson Crain, and Ava Kleckner.
She was preceded in death by four siblings.
Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Parksley.
