Warriors Top Ponies In First Game Back

High School softball has returned after a long sabbatical due to COVID-19. The Warriors opened their season at home last week April 29 against the Chincoteague Ponies. The two teams haven’t played a game since March 11, 2020, and last played each other May 2, 2019, with the Warriors coming out on top 16-0. Reghan Hintz got the win for the Warriors striking out 11 batters against three walks through six innings. Alana Shea closed the game in the last inning striking out two batters to secure the win. Kathleen McAuliffe led the Warriors at the plate going 4 for 5 with three RBIs and a double, Bailey Taylor went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, and Hailey Justice finished with three RBIs going 1 for 4. Nandua will play at home again May 11, against Northampton High School.

Chincoteague’s Alex McComb pitched all six innings for the Ponies where she let up 14 hits and struck out two. Emma Jackson led hitting for the Ponies going 3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Alex McComb went 2 for 4 including a triple and three RBIs, Sara Godwin was the only other batter to record a hit going 3 for 4 at the plate. The Ponies will take the field on Chincoteague May 11, against Arcadia High.
