Mrs. Joyce T. Underhill, age 91, of Goshen, went into the arms of Jesus on Aug. 24, 2026.
Joyce and her sister, Jean, moved from Goshen to Richmond to attend college. There she met her soon-to-be-husband, James H. Underhill. Together they built a life centered around family and friends, their son, Keith Underhill, and their daughter, Joyce Underhill.
While Joyce was an accomplished executive secretary and later a successful Realtor, her rule was to always be home before the kids got home. She was true to her word. She was excellent at cooking and sewing, and she made beautiful prom dresses. She was also a faithful Cub Scout den mother, and the neighborhood driver for ballet, the roller rink, Overhill Lake, and the list goes on.
Joyce is survived by her son, Keith, her beautiful daughter-in-law, Vicky Thompson, and her daughter, Joyce. She is also survived by her beautiful granddaughters, Jessica (Mike) and Lauren (David), and her three great-grandchildren.
Joyce was a member of Exmore Baptist Church and loved the Eastern Shore. She will always be remembered for her quick laugh and precious love.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, at Briggs Funeral Home and Crematory, 1748 Battlefield Blvd. South, Chesapeake, with interment to follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.
