Kristin Willis, who currently serves as Northampton County treasurer, has announced her candidacy for election to the office, pledging to continue building a treasurer’s office focused on professionalism, fiscal responsibility, and outstanding customer service.
Election Day is Nov. 3. Early in-person voting is Sept. 18 through Oct. 31.
Willis was appointed to the position of treasurer on March 1 and has spent the past five months working alongside the office staff “to strengthen operations, improve internal processes, and enhance service for Northampton County taxpayers,” she said.
“Serving as treasurer has been an honor,” Willis said. “My focus has been on supporting our staff, strengthening systems, and providing the dependable service our citizens expect. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made and would be honored to continue that work.”
A Northampton County resident for more than 25 years, Willis is well-known as the co-owner of Eastern Shore Coastal Roasting Company and founder of Machipongo Trading Company.
Throughout her career, she has helped build successful businesses while working with organizations across the Eastern Shore to improve financial management, operations, and customer service.
“As a small business owner, I’ve spent decades managing budgets, making responsible financial decisions, and solving problems,” she said. “Those same principles guide my work as treasurer.”
Beyond her professional career, Willis has remained active in community organizations, tourism initiatives, and local economic development efforts.
She said those experiences have reinforced her belief that effective public service begins with listening and building trust.
“Northampton County has given so much to my family over the years,” she said. “Serving as treasurer is an opportunity to give back to the community that has supported us for so long.”
Looking ahead, Willis said her priorities include maintaining sound financial practices, continuing operational improvements, investing in staff development, and ensuring the treasurer’s office remains accessible, responsive, and accountable.
Willis will spend the coming months meeting with residents across Northampton County to listen to their ideas and discuss her vision for the future of the treasurer’s office for taxpayers.
