Apr 24, 2026 | Obituaries

Mr. Jay Southall was born on Oct. 4, 1954, at the U.S. Navy Infirmary, N.A.A.S, on Chincoteague Island.

Jay was a great Christian man. He loved the Lord his God; his wife of 50 and a half years, Ammie; his daughter, Samantha Haddy; his son-in-law, David Haddy; his two granddaughters, Dakota Lee Haddy and August Marie Haddy; his mother-in-law, Louise Bowden; and his family, church, and friends. He was a great husband to Ammie, and their love for each other carried them through 50 and a half years of marriage.

Jay loved classic cars and enjoyed entering car shows with his buddies. He loved winning trophies and would proudly send his daughter photos of himself with them after each car show. He even joked about needing a new shed to put them all in.

The family gives special thanks to everyone who has expressed condolences or brought food to the house. Your kindness has not gone unnoticed, and it is apparent that he was a well-loved man.

There was a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., on Chincoteague Island.
