Apr 10, 2026 | Obituaries

Ms. Barbara Louise Matthews, 72, of Greenbush, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Born Dec. 19, 1953, in Nassawadox, she was the eldest child and only daughter of the late Frederick Donald Matthews and Peggy Isdell Matthews.

Following high school, Barbara completed the Licensed Practical Nurse program. She then obtained her Registered Nurse credentials, followed by a bachelor’s degree.

Barbara dedicated her life to caring for others through her work as a nurse. She spent years working for Dr. Snyder, the Hermitage, Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital, and later as a home health nurse with Riverside, where her compassion and gentle spirit touched countless lives.

A faithful servant of the Lord, she was a devoted member of Independent Pilgrim Church. In her free time, Barbara enjoyed cooking and expressing her creativity through art, and she had a remarkable talent for completing even the most challenging 1,000-piece puzzles with ease.

She leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Freddy Matthews and his wife, Carol, and David L. Matthews, all of Parksley, and Ronnie Matthews and his wife, Barbara “BeBe,” of Greenbush; her nieces, Tammy Selby (Bobby), Kristin Daniels (Billy), Katie Kelley (Ward), Heather Fluhart (Walker), and Holly Matthews; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Tracy, Bradley (Allison), Robbie, Meredith, Micah, Everly, Kelley, and Walker; and her great-great-niece and great-great-nephews, Violet, Ryan, and Weston.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Sunday, April 12, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Wayne Asbury officiating. Interment will follow in the Liberty Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Saturday, April 11, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
