Mr. Jimmy Wayne Whealton, age 73, passed away peacefully on Dec. 30, 2025.

He was born Aug. 11, 1952, in Nassawadox and was a member of Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island.

He is survived by his wife, Billie Rae Whealton, of Chincoteague Island, to whom he was married for 35 years; his daughter, Laura Williams and her husband, Thomas; and his grandchildren, Kiersten, James, and Camren.

The marshes and waterways shaped Jimmy’s life and work, serving not only as his livelihood but as his way of life. A lifelong waterman, he spent countless hours on the water and was well known for guiding duck hunting trips. He also carved many duck decoys by hand, each one reflecting his lifelong bond to the Shore. Some of his most cherished time was spent simply riding with his brother Mossey, enjoying quiet moments and familiar roads.

He leaves a legacy carved not only in wood but also in the hearts of all who knew him.
