Mr. George Greeley Adams, son of the late Preston and Alice (Ayer) Adams, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. George was a devoted family man, cherished friend, and faithful servant of the Lord.
George was a graduate of Chincoteague High School. In 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, proudly serving his country for 20 years before retiring in 1976. At the age of 25, he married Ina Rae Daisey, and they shared 57 wonderful years together until her passing in 2019. In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara (Dick) Ward; his brother, Freddie; and his son, Bryan.
Following his military service, George worked for many years managing Snug Harbor Marina and later worked as a security guard at Wallops Flight Facility. He greatly enjoyed duck hunting and fishing with his treasured friend, Dave Griffith. In his later years, George found joy in helping out at Chincoteague Fisheries and driving his truck around Chincoteague, visiting with friends and neighbors, sharing stories, and bringing smiles wherever he went. He had a genuine gift for making people feel valued.
Faith was the cornerstone of George’s life, guiding his thoughts and actions. Each Sunday, he could be found at Island Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon and trustee. He was always the first to greet others at the door, offering a warm handshake or a heartfelt hug to everyone who entered.
George will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his daughter, Renee and her husband, Dan Whealton; his granddaughter, Victoria Whealton; his grandson, Barrett and his wife, Jennifer Whealton; his great-grandchildren, Lila, Amelia, Julian, and Barrett; his nieces, Beverly Ward and Jane Lankford; his nephew Jay and his wife, Denise Savage; his nephew Bobby and his wife, Susan Moore; and his brother-in-law, Terry Savage.
Flowers are accepted, and donations may be made to Island Baptist Church, 3380 Willow St., Chincoteague, VA 23336.
