Mrs. Nancy E. McCarthy, 79, of Eastville, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Nancy was born in Millville, N.J., on Oct. 29, 1945. She was a homemaker but also worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone, as a cashier for the A&P Grocery Store, and as a weigher and wrapper for BELO grocery store. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved gardening and you could usually find her working in her beloved flower beds. She also loved reading, word puzzles, and coin collecting. She was an avid supporter of the SPCA, Saint Jude, Disabled American Veterans, first responders, and political candidates.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, John G. McCarthy (Va.); her parents, Charles and Hessie Raff (N.J.); and her brother, Fred Raff (N.J.).
Nancy is survived by her children, Patricia Ambrose (Va.), Elaine Spencer (Va.), and John Rourke (N.J.); her sister, Marian Raff (N.C.); her grandchildren, Kristin Young (Brad) (Va.), Wesley Spencer (Va.), Sarah Rourke (N.J.), and John Rourke Jr. (N.J.); and her great-grandchildren, Hanna Young (Va.), Evan Young (Va.), Decklyn Young (Va.), Kaylee Spencer (Va.) and Briella Nagle (N.J.).
No formal service has been scheduled at this time. Donations can be made in her honor to the American Heart Association.
