Mrs. Mary Catherine Carpenter Bagwell, better known as Kitty, 93, wife of the late Healy L. Bagwell Sr. and a resident of Virginia Beach, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025, at Commonwealth Senior Living at King’s Grant in Virginia Beach.
A native of Birdsnest, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Carpenter and the late Mary Gladden Carpenter. She was a homemaker and a member of Bayside Baptist Church who loved being with her family and listening to Jonathan Carpenter’s Sunday morning service from Exmore Baptist Church.
She is survived by two children, Healy L. “Lee” Bagwell Jr. and his wife, Linda, of New Bern, N.C., and Bryan Bagwell and his wife, Karen, of Virginia Beach; a brother, Kenneth Carpenter, of Exmore; four grandchildren, Jason Bagwell, Amy B. Fahrenholz, Chelsea Diana, and Andrew Bagwell; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 19, at 11 a.m. at Doughty Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Interment followed in Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery. Family joined friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 4 until 6 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Exmore Baptist Church, 11624 Occohannock Road, Exmore, VA 23350.
