Mr. Edward Burvile “Eddie” Hinman Jr., 56, of Bloxom, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 30, 2025, with his cherished family right by his side.
Born on April 20, 1969, in Nassawadox, Eddie was the beloved son of the late Edward Burvile Hinman Sr. and the late Margaret Ann Goleman Polski. A proud Shore Boy through and through, he grew up in Bloxom, where he quickly earned a reputation as a fun-loving, adventurous spirit. Whether playing pool with his cousin or “surfing” cars down Route 13, Eddie lived life loud and full of laughter. He and his fellow “Wild Boys of Bloxom” shared a bond forged through legendary adventures — including the summer they climbed the water tower — a brotherhood that lasted a lifetime.
Everything changed (well, mostly) in 1996 when he met the love of his life, Patty. The two quickly fell in love and were married on June 5, 1999, in Atlantic. Together, they built a life full of love, partnership, and purpose.
Patty and Eddie were a team — the two raised Adam together and decided to make Adam a big brother. When Chyna was born in 1999, Eddie found a new little best friend. Those two got each other from the start. Their sense of humor and escapades were legendary. Eddie could make a dog laugh. Patty almost dreaded going to Target with the pair because she knew that once they crossed the threshold, the antics would begin. They’d find the loudest dog toy in the store and squeeze it every five seconds or they’d quote “The Office” (“That’s what she said!”) and “Parks and Recreation” like it was their jobs! He was the best dad and made life fun and exciting.
Always a hard worker, Eddie dedicated 11 years at Tyson and 26 years at Sysco to care for those he loved. He was a delivery driver until his health began to decline. Before that, he was also a loader and selector. When he wasn’t providing for his family, he was watching #6 Brad Keselowski drive the Dark Horse to victory, or he could be found in his happy place: fishing by boat or by bank at Guard Shore. Above all else, he was the best husband, father, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and Pop-Pop.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memory his adoring wife of over 25 years, Patricia Gail “Patty” Hinman (née Bennett), of Bloxom; his best buddy and closest confidant, his daughter, Chyna Lynn Hinman DiMartino and her husband, Cody DiMartino, of Onancock; his brothers, Mark Hinman, of Nelsonia, and Sgt. 1st Class Travis Hinman, of Monterey, La.; his grandchildren, Raelynn, Maddie, Olivia, Avery, and Ryleigh; his father-in-law, Herbert Bennett, of Tasley; his faithful four-legged friend, Dexter; and a host of extended family and friends.
Eddie was welcomed into eternity by his parents, Edward Burvile Hinman Sr. and Margaret Ann Goleman Polski; his beloved son, Adam Godwin; and his precious granddaughter, Emily Rae Godwin.
Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Friday, June 6, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Bob Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
Donations in Eddie’s memory may be made to Brad Keselowski’s Checkered Flag Foundation, 222 Raceway Drive, Mooresville, NC 28117, https://www.checkeredflagfoundation.org/donate.html#/, a cause that honors military veterans and service members — something close to Eddie’s heart.
