Mrs. Bonnie Sue Barrett, 86, of Chincoteague Island, passed into the arms of her loving savior on Jan. 22, 2025, surrounded and cared for by her devoted family in her residence.

She was born on July 9, 1938, to Mildred and Arthur Hopkins on Chincoteague Island. She was a member of Union Baptist Church. She worked with the proprietors of Beachway Seafood Restaurant and then Tom’s Cove Campground alongside many treasured friends for over 30 years.

Bonnie is survived by her beloved son, Bill Barrett, and wife, Pam, of Chincoteague; four granddaughters, Julie Green and her husband, James, of Georgia, Rachel Trayer and her husband, Kyle, of Georgia, Kara Hess and her husband, Eric, of Pennsylvania, and Angela Hess and her husband, Ethan, of Georgia; sister-in-love, Connie Kay White, of Chincoteague Island; and several cherished nieces and nephews. She is also survived and will be terribly missed by nine great-grandchildren she adored: Shannon, Liana, Eli, and Logan Green; Liam and Isobel Trayer; and Charlie, Elouisa, and Judah Hess.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather; sister, Jean, and loving spouse of 69 years, Calvin Barrett.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague, with the Rev. Kevin Eley officiating. Burial took place in the John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Temperanceville.

Services were entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home, Inc. on Chincoteague Island.
