Mr. John “Jack” Jacob Troutman II  passed away peacefully New Year’s Eve with his wife, Gail, at his side.

Jack was born to John and Isobel Troutman in Oil City, Pa., in 1949.  He grew up in Everett, Pa., and graduated from Everett Area High School in 1967. He graduated from Penn State University in 1971 with a degree in aerospace engineering.

He was immediately drafted into the U.S. Army, and at the last minute his orders were changed, and instead of heading to Vietnam as a medic, he was assigned to the Pentagon, where his computer skills were put to use.

After discharge he was employed by the Honeywell Corp. as a systems analyst and remained in the D.C. area for several years.

He then accepted a position  with GTE Data Systems and moved to Tampa, Fla.  It was in Tampa that he met his soulmate, Gail, and they lived in Tampa for 20 years. He took horticulture classes and earned his master gardener certification. Taking an early retirement from GTE, he ran a successful lawn and landscaping business.

In 1999, wanting to be near family, Jack and Gail moved to Greenbackville and settled into the Captain’s Cove community. Jack continued working outdoors, provided computer support to residents, and was frequently seen “behind the scenes” at various Cove productions and events.

He was a volunteer for many organizations and events all his life.

Jack loved sports and participated in football, wrestling, swimming, volleyball, and golf over the years. He had a huge love of nature and animals.

Jack is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gail; his mother, Isobel; his sister, Elizabeth; and his brother, Robert.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Troutman I, in 2016 and brother, David, in 2020.
