Mr. Donald “Donnie” Edward Kellam Jr., 68, of Exmore, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald E. Kellam Sr. and Mary Richardson Kellam, and his wife of 35 years, Susan H. Kellam.
Donnie is survived by his son, Ryan K. Kellam (Kimberly); grandchildren, Chandler T. Kellam and Hudson K. Kellam; brothers, Terry L. Kellam and Jerry L. Kellam; many nieces and nephews; his companion of nine years, Debbie L. Schweiker; and Debbie’s children, Chris Holt (Sharon), Craig Holt (Rose), and Elaine Patterson (Jon); Debbie’s grandchildren, Obie and Gwen; and special longtime friend, Jeff Flournoy.
As a true Eastern Shore native, Donnie was very active in his community. He retired from Bayshore Concrete. He was a lifetime member with the Community Fire Company, Inc. Having served since 1977, he served in many roles and as its vice president for many years until his death. He also served as a member of the Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Commission since its inception in 1990 and as its chairman from 2001 until his death. He was a member of Exmore Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. Donald was a big sports advocate, which showed in his support of his grandchildren’s sporting events, which he enjoyed immensely.
A funeral service was conducted at Doughty Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Interment followed at Belle Haven Cemetery. Family and friends were invited for a visitation on Monday, Jan. 13, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore.
