Mr. Brann Berry Hart, 88, of Melfa, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at his home. Born Jan. 2, 1937, on the family farm in Bobtown, he was the son of Libren Brooks Hart Sr. and Flora Berry Hart Etz.
Growing up working the dirt on the family farm, Brann learned the meaning of hard work and the value of family. He was a simple man with simple values and those values included God, family, and country.
After attending Central High School, Brann worked on the family farm and joined the Army National Guard. He also partnered with Bobby Sturgis on Sturgis Farm before moving to Delaware and becoming a road construction foreman for the state. After retirement in 1999, he moved back to his beloved Eastern Shore of Virginia, where he felt at home. He lived life simply, valuing honest work and the quiet beauty of everyday moments. He didn’t need much to be happy — a good meal, a peaceful day outdoors, and time with those he loved were all he ever asked for.
Brann is survived by his children, Lenae Long and her husband, Danny, of Cape Charles, and Brenda Parks and her husband, Bobby, of Pungoteague; his sister, Ingelow H. Swan, of Seaford; his grandchildren, Jacob (Candice) and Jenna (Jason); and several nieces and nephews and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents, Libren Brooks Hart Sr. and Flora Berry Hart Etz; his sister, Joan H. Northam; his brothers, Peter V. Hart, Donald L. Hart Sr. (and wife, Rosalie), Lybren Brooks Hart Jr., and Henry C. Hart; and his companions, Ruby Reynolds Evans and Nancy Sherwood Justis.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m., from the graveside of Belle Haven Cemetery, with Pastor Bobby Parks officiating.
Contributions in Brann’s memory may be made to Melfa Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co., P.O. Box 100, Melfa, VA 23410.
