Mrs. Suzanne “Susie” Annis McDaniel, 74, of Parksley, was reunited with her beloved husband, James Burns McDaniel, on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024.

Born June 23, 1950, in Nassawadox, and raised in Guilford, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Harrison Annis and Sylvia Gay Chandler Annis.

The kindest of souls, Susie instantly made those in her presence feel at ease. For decades, she worked at the former Parksley Drugstore, which later became the Club Car Café, where she greeted patrons with a warm smile, always remembered her regulars’ favorite orders, and guided countless new hires with patience and care. Susie cherished the people around her, and they adored her in return. However, nothing brought her greater joy than the deep and unbreakable bond she shared with her family, the kind that stands the test of time and will forever live on in their hearts.

Susie is survived by her loving children, Sherri McDaniel Reese and her husband, David, of Gastonia, N.C., and Byrney McDaniel and his wife, Dana, of Parksley; her grandchildren, Haley McDaniel and Dalton McDaniel; her brothers, Benny Annis and his wife, Kim, and James Bundick and his wife, Edean; her stepgrandson, Aaron Reese and his wife, Vanessa; her brothers-in-law, Preston Coleman McDaniel and William B. “Buddy” Crowder Jr.; her sisters-in-law, Myrtle McDaniel Childress and Shirley Ann McDaniel Underwood; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Nelson R. Childress, Paul Underwood, Reese Willis McDaniel and his wife, Mary, and Herbert William McDaniel; and sisters-in-law, Brenda Lee McDaniel Gusler and her husband, Charlie Jr., and Eva Mae McDaniel.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 10, at 3 p.m., with Mr. George Fulk officiating. Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery. The family will greet friends for a visitation one hour prior to the service.
