Mr. Louis “Dean” LeCates, 77, of New Church, husband of Margaret LeCates, passed away on Oct. 31, 2024, at his residence. Born on Aug. 14, 1947, in Salisbury, Md., to the late Lynwood LeCates and Bernice Anderson, he was raised in Fruitland and Salisbury, graduating from Wicomico High School in 1966.
Most of his life was spent in retail — Drug Fair, Safeway, Super Giant, Thrift Way, and Food Lion. Later he worked as a car salesman at Carlton Massey and lastly with Accomack County at the maintenance center on Chincoteague, where he made many good friends. Dean loved the Elks, especially helping at bingo and all of their functions. He also enjoyed fishing, car racing, Ravens football, country music, his Harley, his cat, “Boo Boo,” and most of all, his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a special stepdaughter, Dorothy Yoder.
Dean is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margaret; a son, Jeffrey LeCates; a brother, Greg Anderson (Cindy); grandchildren, Brittany LeCates, Philip LeCates, Nicholas Yoder, and Joni Yoder; great-grandchildren, Dax LeCates and Jaden Davis; brother-in-law, Bobby Wright (Tricia); niece and nephew, Diana Hurley and Robert Wright; and cousins, Pat, Cindy, Cathy, Lana, Lorie, George, and Elizabeth. He also had many special friends, Sean, Bobby, Bernie, and many more too numerous to mention.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at noon from the Elks Lodge in Pocomoke City, with Donnie Bailey officiating.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Parksley.
