Mr. Arthur James Godwin, 89, of Lee Mont, husband of Claudia Lewis Godwin, passed away on Sept. 10, 2024, in Salisbury, Md.
Born on July 22, 1935, in Saxis, he was the son of the late Winfred James Godwin and the late Dolcie Martin Godwin. In his early life, Arthur worked on the water with his father, at the plywood plant in Pocomoke City, at Birdseye, and at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. He then worked at Holly Farms and Tyson’s for more than 20 years.
He was a dedicated member of the Accomac Lodge #243. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He loved singing along to the radio, watching old Westerns on TV, and dancing along with his daughters. Arthur was a wonderful man who loved everyone and wore his heart on his sleeve. More than anything, he adored spending time with his family, his dogs, and his goats.
Other than his wife, Arthur is survived by his beloved daughters, Tana Godwin Taylor, of Captains Cove, Norma Michele Isdell, of Lee Mont, Teresa Starr Adkins, of Stockton, Md., April Lynn Pruitt, of Temperanceville, and Wanda Sue Miller, of Girdletree, Md.; two stepchildren, Perry Sharpley, of Pocomoke City, and Dawn Thornton, of Hallwood; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters, Cindy Outten, of Girdletree, and Brenda Carey, of Lee Mont; and four nieces and eight nephews.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Smith; a brother, Van Godwin; a son-in-law, Pete Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Stevie and Drew.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. from Thornton Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Levesque officiating. Interment followed in the John W. Taylor Cemetery in Temperanceville.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service at Thornton Funeral Home.
