Mrs. Geraldine “Gerri” Satanek Guyon, 84, formerly of the Eastern Shore, passed away on Aug. 13, 2024, in Seven Lakes, N.C., with her loving family by her bedside. Born on June 17, 1940, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Alexander and Gladys Satanek, Gerri was a creative and artistic soul known for her commitment to creating beautiful beach blossom art benefiting St Jude Children’s Research Hospital and for her deep love of the ocean and seashells.
Gerri graduated from Convent High School in Syracuse and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from SUNY Oswego. During high school, she met Bob, the love of her life, and they married shortly after their college graduations. They began their life together in Florida, where Gerri’s passion for the ocean flourished alongside her career as an educator. She took great pride in shaping young minds in her classroom, always fostering a love of learning.
Gerri cherished her role as a mother to her three wonderful children, Jeffrey Robert, Christopher Keith, and Marbeth Ann. She was also blessed with three grandchildren, with whom she shared her deep love of nature and passion for education.
Gerri was deeply committed to her community, generously dedicating her time and talents as a volunteer at numerous Catholic churches across the eight states where she and her family lived. She especially enjoyed living near the beach and collecting shells, finding joy in the natural beauty around her. Gerri’s dedication and leadership left a lasting impact, and in 1997, she was honored as Volunteer of the Year by the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve.
Along with her hobbies, she had a great love for animals and treasured her many Shih Tzu puppies, including Chessie, her most recent soulmate.
Gerri is lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Robert; her children, Jeffrey (Betsy) Guyon, Christopher (Donna) Guyon, and Marbeth Kollath; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew, and Kristen Guyon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Alexander, and her brother, Richard Satanek.
A celebration of Gerri’s life and legacy will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Cape Charles with a funeral mass at her beloved St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. with Father J. Michael Breslin presiding.
