Mr. James Steven “Steve” Booker, 81, of Melfa, passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, at Commonwealth Senior Living at the Eastern Shore in Onancock, where he resided with his wife, Sharon. Born Nov. 19, 1942, in High Point, N.C., he was a son of the late James Moore Booker and the late Iva Hix Booker.
A native of High Point, Steve graduated from Ragsdale High School and attended High Point College. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a mineman in Sicily. Following honorable discharge, he continued his education at North Carolina State University, receiving his Master of Science degree in engineering. Here he met and married his sweetheart and together they moved to the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
Steve was ordained as a minister in 1994. That same year he graduated from Regent University with a degree in Christian counseling. He spent the next 30 years pouring himself into the lives of Eastern Shore residents. Steve’s concern for the well-being of others remained at the forefront, and he helped as many people as possible.
Steve retired as a civil engineer a decade ago but continued serving others through his counseling practice. He was a longtime member of Onancock Baptist Church, where he served as an elder and a deacon. Above all, Steve’s life was defined by sharing joy in Christ.
