Mrs. Lucy Lewis Shea, age 91, of Onancock, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley. A native of Deep Creek, she was born July 8, 1933, to the late Ira and Mary Ellen (Murphy) Lewis. Lucy later moved to Onancock, where she and her late husband William Joseph “Bill” Shea, whom she married in 1954, made their family home.

Lucy graduated from Onancock High School in 1951. She was a lifelong member of Leatherbury United Methodist Church and retired in 1999 from Meyers & Tabakin Furniture, where she worked as the manager for more than two decades. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and never missed an opportunity to go shopping, always returning with a little something for everyone.

As the Shea family matriarch and mother of four boys, Lucy was tiny but mighty, fiercely loyal, and never afraid to stand her ground. She loved endlessly and would do anything for her children and grandchildren, and she especially adored her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel Shea and his wife, Roxanne, Martin Shea, and Harvey Shea, all of Onancock, and David Shea and his wife, Rose, of Wallops Island; brother, George Lewis and his wife, Norma, of Exmore; grandchildren, Sean Shea, Mary Ellen Doughty (John), Shannon Taylor (Kenneth), Brittney Shea, Ryan Shea (Rebecca), and Ashley McQuade (Matthew); great-grandchildren, Alana Shea, Laurie and Sarah Doughty, Charlie and Erin Taylor, William Conner Stokes, Bethany Shea, Alli Bell, and Lily and Ryan McQuade; as well as several nieces, nephews, and their families. In addition to her parents and husband, Lucy was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Warner Harrison.

Services will be conducted from the graveside at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Roland Major officiating.

Contributions in Lucy’s memory may be made to Leatherbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 625, Melfa, VA  23410.
