Mr. Edward Leroy Thornton, 82, of Temperanceville, husband of the late Patricia Ann Thornton, passed away on April 3, 2024, in Parksley.

Born on Sept. 21, 1941, on the family farm in Temperanceville, he was the son of the late Harvey Roy Thornton and the late Audrey McGee Thornton. Edward was a lifelong poultry farmer for Perdue for 45 years. He thoroughly enjoyed his job and farming.

Edward is survived by two sisters, Jean Thornton Taylor and Charles Coulbourne, of Pocomoke City, and Carol Thornton Purdy and husband, Craig, of Pocomoke City; a brother, Harlan W. Thornton and wife, Jean, of Temperanceville; nieces and nephews, Kristin Grandy, Kimberly Marshall, Karen Atkins, Wade E. Taylor, Scott Taylor, Carla Makinen, and Chris Purdy; and great-nieces and nephews, Elizabeth and Ryan Grandy, Paige Marshall, Dalton and Cooper Atkins, Ethan, Meredith, Riley, Blake, and Colby Taylor, Landon, Layton, and Callan Makinen, and Gabby, Kenzie and Emme Purdy.

Other than his parents and wife, Edward was preceded in death by a great-nephew, Caleb Paul Taylor.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, April 9 at 2 p.m. from the graveside at Downing’s Cemetery in Oak Hall with Maury Enright officiating.

Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
