Mrs. Joan Haynes Recor, 93, wife of the late Russell L. Recor and a resident of Onancock, passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at her home. Born Oct. 21, 1930, in King and Queen County, she was the daughter of the late Crawley Haynes and the late Elizabeth Blake Haynes.

Joan graduated from West Point High School and worked in banking for many years. Known for her independence and endless energy, Joan was rarely found sitting still. She enjoyed cooking and baking, as well as being on the water and outside, especially when fishing, crabbing, or working around her yard and garden.

Joan had the kindest of hearts, the sweetest of smiles, never knew a stranger, and would do anything for anyone. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her son, Linwood C. Recor (Ruby), of Newport News; grandson, David L. Recor, whom Joan and her husband, Russell, raised as their own, and his wife, Maria, of Palm City, Fla.; grandchildren, Kellie Kosuth (Justin) and Russell Recor; great-granddaughters, Ashley Parker, Laura Kimmel, Erin Recor, Shannon Recor, Rhyan, Jordyn, Morgan, Marissa, Abby, Breanna, and Aleeyah; and great-great grandchildren, Liam Parker, Connor Parker, and Kyla Kimmel. Joan is also survived by her dear neighbors and longtime friends, Jean DiDaniele and Bill McCarter, and especially Nelda and Anthony LoFaso, to all for whom her family is forever grateful for their love and compassion over her lifetime.

A service in celebration of Joan’s life will be held at the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at 11 a.m.
