She came to Richmond to attend the Pan American Business School, worked several years for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company, part-time for Thalhimers Westmoreland, and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education with certification in library science and a Masters degree in education, inspiring the love of books and the pursuit of higher learning in her daughters and granddaughters.

Before GPS, Virginia could give you directions, including street and route numbers, to just about anywhere you wanted to travel in the United States. Virginia was a long-time resident of The Hermitage at Cedarfield.

Virginia loved life and lived it to its fullest with remarkable intelligence and joy. She made friends everywhere she went and treasured the time she spent with them. Virginia donated her body to the Virginia Anatomical Society to be used in medical school research with the goal of researching treatments for osteoarthritis.
