Talia Custis Taylor pulled off a victory for the ages on Tuesday night, defeating Cedrick Cooper — the son of retiring Accomack County Circuit Court Clerk Samuel Cooper — in a race for the elder Cooper’s seat.

Taylor defeated Cedrick Cooper, 6,193 to 4,398, to win the election. Late-arriving absentee ballots and provisional ballots have not been counted but are not expected change the victor.

Cooper’s ubiquitous campaign signs carried the slogan, “The Name You Know,” a nod to his father, who has been Accomack Circuit Court Clerk for 40 years.
