Mrs. Janet Lou Evans, of Onancock, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at the age of 78. The youngest of seven children, she was born Oct. 8, 1945, in Fairmont, W.Va., to the late Harvey Jones and the late Ruth Cunningham Jones.

Never afraid of a hard day’s work, Janet began her career in retail at a young age. Most recently she managed Dollar Tree and Rite Aid in Exmore, retiring in 2007. Janet loved going to yard sales and was always up bright and early on Saturday mornings to make sure she was first to find a good deal. She was a 25-year member of the Onancock Elks Lodge No. 1766, enjoyed word searches, and loved the challenge of a new puzzle.

Janet is survived by her husband of 28 years, Damon Royce Evans; children, John Harden and his wife, Tamarah, and Jackie Dickson and her husband, Mike, all of Alexandria, La.; sister, Kathy Jackson, of Richmond; brothers, Harvey Jones, of Tampa, Fla. and Edward Jones of Nahunta, Ga.; grandchildren, Cody Harden (Megan), Krista Messick (Brent), and Shania Dickson; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Devon, Kristina, and Landon Harden and Ryan Messick; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Scott, Betty Jones, and Doris Toothman.

Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Mount Holly Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Andy Cobb officiating.
