Mr. Herbert Trader Sr., 89, the beloved son of the late Catherine Trader and Ewell Savage was born in Modest Town on June 10, 1934. He was reared by the late Booker Trader. He peacefully answered the Master’s call on Sept. 28, 2023, in Bristol, Pa., at the home of his daughter, Donna “Cathy” Trader.

Herbert was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Mappsville. Later in life, he became a member of the First United Baptist Church in Philadelphia, where he served on the Usher Board, as well as in various other capacities in the church and community.

Herbert enlisted and served in the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged, he became employed by the Philadelphia Sanitation Department for a number of years and later was promoted to senior driver. He was also employed part time with various bus lines to include Greyhound and Trailways.

Upon his retirement, he moved back home to the Eastern Shore where he became a dedicated caregiver for his mother until her passing. He resumed his membership at First Baptist in Mappsville, where he sang in the male chorus and was a faithful and reliable member of the culinary/kitchen committee.

Herbert was joined in holy matrimony to the late Margaret Gae Trader.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, from First Baptist Church, Mappsvillle, with the Rev. Fred Crosley officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Precious memories are left with his daughters, Veronica Trader, Vernell White, Coletta White, Claudia Trader-Vinson, and Donna “Cathy” Trader; son, Alonzo Darnell Broadwater; brother, Sylvester Savage; sisters, Christine Snell, Doris Hack, Malinda Matthews, Syrene Washington, and Shirleen Addison; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends to include a very special and devoted friend, Bertha Wilson.

Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
