Mr. Samuel Lee Downing, 60, affectionately known as “Sammy” or “Squirrel,” was born on Jan. 6, 1963, to the late Richard and Lena Smith-Downing. On July 18, 2023, Samuel entered into eternal rest at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Samuel received his education in the Accomack County Public Schools. He entered the workforce at Showell Poultry and later worked at Tyson Foods for 25 years.
On March 20, 2013, he entered into holy matrimony with Juanita Savage.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, from the Chapel of Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac, with the Rev. Harold E. White Sr. officiating. Interment was in the First Baptist Church Cemetery, Mappsville.
Sammy leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Juanita Savage-Downing; daughter, Sheena Harmon; sisters, Phillis Smith, Rose Beach, Peggy Jenkins, and Mary Shrieves; brothers, Jessie Downing, Melvin Downing, Earvin Downing, and Donald Downing; mother-in-law, Carrie Bailey; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; 10 nieces; four nephews; 24 great-nieces; 13 great-nephews; one great-great-niece; three great- great-nephews; several special friends; and a host of extended family and friends.
Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
