A 2022 graduate of Arcadia High School has jumped his way into the record books as a member of Regent University’s men’s track and field team.

Kevin Cropper, a native of Oak Hall and freshman at Regent University in Virginia Beach, was recently named MVP of the team after setting multiple school records for the high jump, triple jump, and long jump.

Cropper competed at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Indoor Track and Field Championship meet on Feb. 10 and 11, which was held at Cedarville University near Dayton, Ohio. There he earned high enough marks to qualify for the National Christian College Athletic Association’s national track meet at Columbia International University in Columbia, S.C., that took place from May 10 to 12.

At nationals, Cropper earned All-American honors in all three events in which he participated. He placed third in the high jump, fifth in the triple jump, and sixth in the long jump.

Cropper’s coach, Meghan Chaffins, is also a local product. A native of Temperanceville and a 2017 graduate of Holly Grove Christian School, Chaffins earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and a Bachelor of Arts degree in sports and exercise science from Randolph College in 2021. She also earned a Master of Arts degree in coaching and sports leadership in 2022, and she was a member of the Randolph volleyball and indoor/outdoor track teams.

Chaffins, who is in her first year as an assistant track coach, also had a record-setting career as a jumper for Randolph. She hopes to give interested student athletes from the Shore a chance to continue their careers as collegiate athletes, as she believes that they can be just as good as athletes from elsewhere if given the opportunity.
