On Sunday, Feb. 26, the GOAT House wrestling club claimed its first two Virginia Wrestling Association state wrestling champs in Doswell, Va.

The VAWA state championships allow wrestlers from the top wrestling clubs of Virginia to compete for a state title.

The wrestlers who competed were Violet Youmans, Georgia Youmans, and Lucas Stodghill.

Violet Youmans, 5, with only one loss going into the state tournament, claimed the 6U girls 41-pound state title pinning her way throughout the tournament.

Georgia Youmans, 9, took home the 76-pound 9U girls state title, also pinning her way through her bracket.

Lucas Stodghill went 1-2 during the state tournament but picked up a lot of lessons throughout the day.

Violet and Georgia became not only the first GOAT House state champions, but the first female wrestling state champions from the Shore, the first VAWA state champions from the Shore, and the first pair of sisters to win a state title from the Shore.

The GOAT House wrestling club started its freestyle/Greco session on March 13, which is only open to experienced wrestlers.  The GOAT House will begin its next beginner session in May. For more information, contact Paglia at 757-710-0425 or email at [email protected].
