Mrs. Vivian Gladden Scott, 93, wife of the late Howard H. Scott Sr. and a resident of Townsend, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock. A native of Birdsnest, she was the daughter of the late Elton N. Gladden and the late Amy Killmon Gladden. She was a retired clerk for Jones Department Store and a member of Lower Northampton Baptist Church.
She is survived by two children, Dianne Disharoon and her husband, Keith, of Dalbys, and Wayne Downing and his wife, Cheryl, of Cape Charles; a sister, Sarah Ann Twisdale of Willis Wharf; two grandchildren, Crystal Downing Handy and Craig of Cheriton, and Heather Bredimus and her husband, Robby, of Cheriton; eight great-grandchildren, Wayne Handy, Laura Handy, Brianna Morales, Jose Morales, Kayley Reyes, Lee Mears IV, Alyssa Bredimus, and Logan Bredimus; and two great-great grandsons, Elijah Berube and Jameson Berube. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kimberly Marie Downing; and five sisters, Elinor Dykeman, Daphne Joynes, Ethel Forkum, Betty Jean Harrison, and Juanita Fletcher.
A graveside service was conducted Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Cape Charles Cemetery with the Rev. Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
